Now this may sound awkward considering I’ve been blogging for more than two years now, but yeah, it took me that long to realised I shouldn’t have started blogging. So if you’re thinking of starting a blog, then think again. Running and maintaining it is not as easy as it looks. Here are the many reasons why you shouldn’t start blogging.
First is TIME. Having to juggle modern life between family, work, friends, social media life and our inseparable time with our mobile phone. Looking and browsing at your phone alone already takes a lot of your time in a week, so where on earth will you get that extra time to fit blogging?
Second, You’ve got to possess the “Technical Know-How” of managing your website and produce stellar contents. Sounds complicated right? Exactly!
Third, Creating A Lot Of Social Media Platforms. So in order for your blog to stay active and be recognised, you’ve got to have a social media platform. That’s means creating and maintaining Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Bloglovin, Facebook Page etc., and have at least 500+ followers and likes on each one of them. Even if it means individually asking or begging people to like or follow you. Cringe-worthy huh?!
Fourth, Picture Perfect. To get a lot of followers and wow brands and sponsors with your blog, you’ve got to produce great photos. Even if it means buying a high end camera, going to photography classes or hiring a professional photographer altogether. It may sounds over-the-top, but the quality of your photographs does makes a difference.
Fifth, Blogging Doesn’t Make You Money. It cost you money more like. You see these bloggers wearing different brands of sponsored clothes, going to different holiday destinations, dining in fancy restaurants, staying in hotels for free, sent with the latest gadgets, makeups and products to be reviewed, makes you want to start blogging right? Well these opportunities don’t happened overnight. You’ve got to possessed or acquired all of those things I’ve mentioned above or maybe more!
So why am I still blogging? Well let me say, my blog is a Labor of Love powered by Passion. Sounds cheesy I know but my blog means a lot to me. I might not post as often as I would like to, but when I do, I put so much time and thought into each post (being a little OCD doesn’t help). I may be in my nurses uniform or slob clothes most of the time, but the love to dress up is always with me. I think about what to wear and how I could wear a certain item in many different outfits, as much as when I think of what to prepare for our next meal. I’m known to be a thrifty shopper, but I do appreciate the finer things in life. Although my personal style are mainly affordable fashion and how I’ve maximised what I already have in my wardrobe and making preloved and affordable outfits look current and stylish. Those are the things that excites me that makes me want to inspire others. You can’t buy style but you can be inspired by what’s around you fuelled by what’s within you.
I may not get much visits on my blog per day, not making money out of it or don’t have many likes or following on my social media, but that didn’t stop me to carry on blogging. I’m just also lucky that my other half has been very supportive since day one. It’s my way of expressing myself, it connects me with other people with the same passion as me, and local businesses and events that I wouldn’t know or experience otherwise if not for blogging.
So if you’re passionate about something, whether it’s about food, fashion, travel, politics, DIY’s, gaming etc. and wish to express your thoughts and or inspire others through blogging.. then by all means go for it! There are many blog creation sites out there that are easy to setup and maintain, WordPress & Blogger being the most popular, followed by Tumblr and Webs. Just stay true to yourself and be clear with what you want your blog to me about.
So what’s stopping you? GO ON, START BLOGGING! :)
